According to a notice on the Amazon.com website, Xbox Live Arcade game codes for specific Xbox 360 downloads will no longer be sold through the online retailer.

The notice further informs users that Xbox Live points can still be purchased on Amazon.com, and that these can be used with your Xbox 360 console to purchase any of the games that were previously available.

The Amazon store offered consumers the advantage of buying games using exact money — and sometimes at Amazon-specific discounts — rather than purchasing them using a Point system as in the Live Arcade interface.

Hello Games chose to make Joe Danger a PlayStation Network exclusive, apparently because the indie developer lacked faith in Xbox Live Arcade.

“Why choose PSN? It was the only way we could self-publish,” he said. “XBLA is kind of a slaughterhouse for smaller developers. There are games that do amazingly well. But there’s two titles released every week and a lot of those are falling in that 25,000 or less category.” Murray used his own independent figures, which he noted aren’t official. He claims 47% of self-published XBLA titles sold less than 25,000 copies, 23% sold around 100,000 copies, 13% sold 200,000 copies, and 17% sold more than 200,000. Joe Danger sold 50,000 copies on the PSN in the first week alone.

Leaked images that appear to be from Microsoft’s PartnerNet developer service suggest that Shenmue II may be heading to Xbox Live Arcade.

The source of the alleged leak is ImageShack user Xbox360Leaker, who previously posted supposed evidence of Jet Set Radio for XBLA.

In the images the title “Project Berkley II” is shown on Xbox360Leaker’s Recent Games list, obscured by a bright red “Leak” watermark. The icon for the game is the disembodied head of Shenmue protagonist Ryu, leading to the rampant speculation you’re reading right now.

SEGA has yet to respond to requests for comment.
